Our twelve week weight management program begins with an in-depth nutrition and fitness assessments to determine which program will best suit the teen or child’s individual needs. Family participation is an integral part of a teen’s or child’s success with the program. Family lifestyle assessments identify the family’s participation in the program.

Our one-on-one family sessions or group family sessions include:
- Up-to-date information on health, wellness, nutrition and fitness.
- A physical activity and exercise program that focuses on fun and being fit.
- Fun and co-operative role playing and exercises provide insight and solutions to problems overweight or obese teens and kids face every day.
- Our weekly sessions review family and social activities, interactions and conflicts, supported by case studies and exercises to help address these behavioural and environmental factors.
- Support groups help to inspire, motive and support teens, kids, parents and families as they adapt to new lifestyle changes.
- Education and discussion on related health issues such as obesity, eating disorders, body image, etc. help participants to better understand themselves and the world around them.
Each week you and your family will work with a healthy lifestyle consultant to review each of the twelve "Building Blocks to Success" Steps.
Each step consists of five parts called S.W.I.F.T progress: Savvy Solutions, Weekly Narrative, Insight, Food Essentials, and Take the Challenge. These are followed by the Building on What You've Learned section, which helps you to build on what you know, set goals, record your accomplishments with the S.W.I.F.T Progress form and record your food intake with the WeightSavvy Teens & Kids Daily Food Intake charts.
- Savvy Solutions outlines the theme of the Building Blocks to Success step and provides information on nutrition, fitness and health to help you shed unwanted weight.
-
The Weekly Narrative deals with a real life situation, faced by one of the four teenaged fictional characters in the case study and is designed to provide you and your parents with an opportunity to discuss topics, such as teasing, bullying, emotional overeating, boredom, etc. Ethan, Meagan, Nick and Stacey share their unique experiences, challenges and successes with you, to help you to realize that you are not alone and that you too can overcome your weight problem.
-
The Insight section will help you learn more about yourself and help you to address challenges and tackle obstacles that prevent you from losing weight.
-
Food Essentials demystifies and answers all of your questions and concerns about nutrition. Food Essentials will provide you with information about Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide or MyPyramid Steps to a Healthier You (USA), carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins, minerals, healthy snacks, water and other beverages to help you to learn how to make healthy food choices.
-
Get fit with the Take the Challenge Fitness program; our weekly walking or running fitness program includes endurance training, strength training and flexibility training.
-
In addition to these sections, there is also a section called Parent’s Corner that is specifically tailored to parents to discuss issues, such as building self-esteem and self-confidence, establishing boundaries, enhancing communication with your child or teen, preparing well-balanced meals, choosing healthy take-out food, reading nutrition facts food labels and much, much more.
Goal setting is a powerful tool to help motivate you to accomplish what you set out to achieve. Setting goals is easy; it’s like creating a road map. You need to decide where you want to go, how you want to get there, and then you need to create a plan that outlines the steps you need to take to reach to your final destination (goal).

Imagine that you have decided to take a twelve-week trip across Canada. You have decided to drive from Vancouver to Newfoundland to learn more about our great country. To get from one side of the country to the other in twelve weeks, you will have to create a travel plan that enables you to visit one major city in each province or territory, each week. As you travel across the country visiting each city each week, you will have to make some small adjustments to your travel plans to ensure that you reach your destination within the time frame that you have established. For example, when the cities are further away from each other, you will need to spend most of the week driving to the next city. When the cities are closer together, you be able to spend less time driving and more time visiting the city’s tourist areas.
-
The WeightSavvy Teens and Kids weight management program is like a road trip from one place to another-from an unhealthy weight to a healthy weight. Our program lets you decide what a healthy weight is for you. Then each week, we help you to create a plan that outlines the steps you need to take to reach your desired weight. We do this with our Building on What You’ve Learned goal setting program and S.W.I.F.T. Progress form.

Let’s say that your goal is to reduce your weight by ten to fifteen pounds or five to seven kilos by the end of the twelve weeks. Each week, you will need to reduce your weight by 1 to 1.5 pounds or 0.453 kilos to 0.68 kilos. In order for you to achieve a healthier weight at the end of twelve weeks, you will need to make small adjustments to your weekly dietary intake and physical fitness plans. For example, you will need to make healthier food choices or eat smaller portions one week or exercise longer or more often the next week, so that within twelve weeks you have reached your final destination and achieved a healthier balanced weight.
